This week was the last week until exams and after today we will only have four more classes. Throughout the week we have been reading more of the play A raisin in the sun. While reading the play we have also been listening to different songs by different artist and have compared them to the play. We have also been doing a "I saw" and an "I thought" paper that we have been doing with our table groups and some of it individually. Throughout reading this play I have understood many other problems people may have throughout their lives. This play is a very good play and to learn about the characters and the problems they face is interesting and can be quite sad as well, especially with Ruth and her baby. This week was fun and easy.

This week we have finished reading October sky and we focused on writing our comparative analysis between October Sky and Of mice and men and we focused on the relationships in those two books and compared them with each other. For the main topic of my paper was a mutualism relationship between the characters. It took a while but I finally understood it with the example. The second thing we just started this week was a play called A raisin in the Sun. We haven't started reading it yet but we were able to pick our parts for it. We have been connecting Music Lyrics to A raisin in the sun as well. This week was a pretty smooth week, considering everything we had to do to our comparative analysis paper and starting a new play This week was a pretty easy week. This week we started of with reading a new book that we picked out individually for when we do another one paper for our book reports at the end of the six weeks. We then continued the book October Sky and now that I have had a chance to read more of it, it’s getting a little more interesting but I still am not a huge fan of the book. With what we’ve read of October Sky we used that knowledge to list out some of the characters characteristics, individually then discuss them as a group. Going over the characteristics as a class really helps me understand the book and the characters more because each group had to have different pairings for the people in the book they were going to compare to or see how they each benefit from each other. Something else that I learned was October Sky is also Rocket boys and I thought that was very interesting! This week we have been learning about relationships and the traits of the characters. We started reading a new novel “October Sky”. The new book is the year Sputnik was launched. On Monday we watched two videos one of the 1930s and the 1950s on how their reactions were with the launching of Sputnik, between the Russians point of view and the Americans point of view. This week I’ve learning that relationships are important in life and are needed to be happy and when you have a relationship that isn’t doing good for you, you should get rid of that relationship. I’ve also learned many differences between the 1930s and the 1950s, in the 1930s there was a lot of poor families and a lot of people were suffering but in the 1950s it was a happier time. The book October Sky that we just started reading is not my favorite, I am not very interested in it. Although I’m not that interested in it I do like the history that is in it with it being based on Sputnik and the town that they are in Coalwood and it was changing and slowly dying. The big Idea I asked from Of Mice and Men was more understanding after we watched the movie and discussed it a little more. The big idea I had was what makes connection have meaning and I understand all the connections and meanings that were going on like with Lennie and George, Curley and his wife, and with Candy and and his dog. Between all these people the relationships they had with each other was very different. We are also reading an article called "Living in Sin" and we did a reading of that separately and highlighted the important parts and we connected those parts to the connections of the people Of Mice of Men. My understanding of from this week was at a high level, I enjoyed everything we did in class and I enjoyed the move Of MIce and Men. I also have a better understanding on why people need to depend on others because of George and Lennie. I also understand that some relationships that seem great may not be what they always are like Curley and his Wife. This week of class was probably one of the best weeks we've had, my understanding of the lessons we learned are great, I had no questions left over. This was the week after spring break and it was a little hard to get into considering we missed Monday due to a snow day and everyone is still hyped up from spring break. When we started back at school we jumped right into reading the book "Of Mice and Men". The main idea of this week was the reading Of Mice and Men, learning about connections and also answering our big questions we have. Some activities we did in class that connected with Of Mice and Men was when we would write on the board about the visions Lennie was seeing in chapter six of the book and also discussing what has happened in the last chapter we read of it. The big question I had that went along with the main idea of this week was "What makes connections have meaning?" I answered that question by saying "something that makes a connection have meaning is how strong that connection is". I really love that answer to that question because, how can something have meaning if there isn't a strong connection towards the meaning By the end of the book I was a little surprised on what happened and was a little upset about the outcome of it, but I will admit reading this book was an eye opening novel about friendship and connections. This was the first week of school starting a new trimester and during the whole day with new classes I was thinking to myself "It's just classes you'll be fine". Monday I was a quiet, easy day, we started class off with an introduction. Tuesday was kind of boring we had a sub and the whole hour all we did was read and nothing else. Wednesday we focused mainly on our "you as a writer/you as a reader". Thursday we finished up our "you as a writer/you as a reader" and then wrote words on relationships and purpose, during that time I was thinking "Wow that's hard I can't think of any words". During the whole week I was participating in all the little projects that we did. I feel I had somewhat good understanding of what we did.The only time I had problems with understanding was when we had the subs. New classes really scare me especially when your not sure what it's going to be like. -Kristyn |
