Kristyn learned to read from her parents and her past teachers. She was either read to or she read to someone else with their help. Kristyn does not enjoy reading on her free time, she would rather be doing something else. When Kristyn is able to pick a book of her choosing and when she is given time in class to read it she does enjoy it. Kristyn would say she does read frequently. She reads when she is on social media, in the car and pretty much anywhere else there are words. Kristyn believes that people read for many reasons, some of those reason are entertainment, work/business, education, directions, ordering food at a restaurant, etc. She also believes that in order to be a good reader one must understand what they are reading and be open to reading. The hardest part of reading for Kristyn is when she doesn't understand what she's reading, when that does happen Kristyn will fake read it and not finish it. The qualities she looks for in a book is if the cover and title catches her eye. Most of the time she will not choose a challenging book. Kristyn never reads at home unless it's a text message or anything like that but enjoys reading at school when she is given the time to do so. Kristyn feels that reading is important for any and all people.
Currently she is not reading any new books, over the summer she only read two books, The Ice Storm and How to Read Literature Like a Professor. Last summer Kristyn did not read any books although she did still read text messages, articles on the internet and more but they were not books. Some of her favorite authors would have to be Veronica Roth and John Green. She enjoys the Divergent series by Veronica Roth and she enjoys The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Kristyn has about twenty books in her house, most of them belong to her father and are mostly about agriculture but she has a few of her own favorites. Kristyn is a reader who is always willing to give a book a chance and to never judge by its cover. Over the past years Kristyn would say her reading skills have increased, although she is still a slow reader she tends to take her time in understanding and enjoying what she is reading.
Kristyn would say she is a writer. Kristyn learned to write just like everyone else, she learned the letters, the words and the sentences using those words to create a good story. She's not the most creative person when it comes to creating her own story but she does enjoy writing a paper when there is a topic to research. She believes there is many different reasons why people write and some of those reason are to tell a story about themselves or about something else. Kristyn believes that before someone starts writing a novel or a short story they should research the topic they are doing and get all the facts they can before they start writing just to make sure they are writing the right information. Kristyn's favorite types of writings are research paper types, creative and she does like a few poems. She can never decide what she writes about, she's not creative so she struggles with finding ideas. Most of the time she'll just look around where she is and she can find something that catches her eye to write about. As a writer she is motivated by positive comments about her writing. Even though she calls herself a writer she does not write at home as often as she does if she were at school. When she is writing at home it's probably going to be something that's school related. When she's writing a research paper most of the time she feels pretty good about it as long as she did the research on her topic but when she writes creatively she's not the most confident about it.
